a teeny tiny elephant, a pretty pendant, an enamel charm. The jars didn't contain gold, jewels, old coins or anything else of monetary value, just found objects from my childhood. My best friend's brother keeps a shoe box that has every ticket stub from every movie, concert or sporting events he’s ever attended. Another contained beach glass and shells and a third held an assortment of odds and ends. While it was fun going through the jars and it gave me a feeling of nostalgia, I found myself wishing I had a better way to relay the past and started wondering how to give that gift to my kids. I remembered finding the large piece of purple beach glass on the rocky coast of Maine and could talk about another rock that came from a cave in Pennsylvania. My daughter and I dumped the jars on the ground and picked through their contents. One held curious rocks and pebbles, a couple marbles and some Girl Scout pins.
