Bayonetta 's Gaudy Style Smothers the Substance

I really should’ve stopped reading this after the first paragraph. What kind of journalist writes his review based on just a few hours of gameplay? That is perfectly parallel to walking out of a movie after the first thirty minutes and writing a review based on that, or leaving a play after the first act.

To me you give the impression that you went in with the idea that Bayonetta was going to be a decadent and shallow affair and you stopped playing before the game could prove itself to be otherwise. Though to me the game proved itself to be more than that before the end of the prologue ended. But hey, the first few hours only scratch the surface of the game’s story so how can you even deem the plot silly after only dipping your toe in it?

I’m trying my best not to turn this into an essay but… good grief, corny music? I’ve already heard three genres of music and I haven’t any complaint about any of them. Stilted dialogue? I thought both writers and voice actors alike embraced their characters rather well. And if you had played past the prologue you might have noticed there’s exploration segments in Bayonetta where the game, indeed, gets to sit still and look pretty.
