After its prized pieces were showcased in films like Devdas , Zubeida and Monsoon Wedding , Art Karat has now come up with its Nizam collection which is now showcased at Hyatt Regency. “The original royal collection would cost in crores and is beyond the reach of common man, so we have created this collection which is made on a base of pure silver plated with 22 carat gold to increase affordability,” says Kamal Modi, chairman. “But the craftsmanship and quality of products has not been compromised,” he insists.

Starting with Rs 1,500 for a simple pair of jhumkis , the collection offers a variety of jewellery at reasonable prices. The kundan work chokers and jhumkis are the hallmark of the brand with options in rings, brooch and mang-tikkas as wellWhite sapphire has been used instead of diamonds to cut cost. Colourful stones — tourmaline, topaz and rubies also adorn the collection.

“My personal favourite is the Zelda necklace. A heavy piece with a string of rubies, pearls, sapphires and green droplets, it is rich in glamour and taste,” says Asha Modi, the designer who counts the late Rajkumari Gayatri Devi and Princess Diya Kumari as her patrons. There are also semi-casual options like a cluster of pearl necklace and enamel pearl earrings, ideal for a mehendi or sangeet. Priced at Rs.2150, the earrings are delicate, affordable and wearable.”
